An okay 'elevated' prequel to a classic.

Not a bad movie but a bit bone dry. There's not much to say about this one. It's a prequel to The Omen... it's very similar to the recently released Immaculate and it's not a bad movie.

The photography is pretty good, the story is okay, the acting is decent. It's not particularly interesting, scary, entertaining, funny or sexy. It's just a somewhat well executed horror prequel. It's going for that 'elevated horror' thing which I'm getting a bit sick of.

Honestly Immaculate is better if only because it's nearly half an hour shorter, has Sydney Sweeney and is it's own thing. The First Omen being a prequel to The Omen restricted the story a little and sets it up for comparison to a great movie.

I wouldn't advise anyone to watch Immaculate and The First Omen in close proximity. They're basically the same movie and which ever one gets watched second will suffer.

3. The First Omen - 6
4. Late Night with the Devil - 6
5. Imaginary - 5.5
6. Night Swim - 5

Thanks for your review. I haven't seen this or Immaculate. I'll probably wait to watch Immaculate first.

In short, with the majority of critics I am. (Up in this place they are not found, of course.) It being a prequel notwithstanding, itโ€™s an expertly-crafted and acted horror film overall. Experiencing it at the theater was just the best. Elevated? Well in that case, more horror like this please. (First Omen>Immaculate.)

At any rate, to echo the sentiments of many elsewhere, a prequel that honors the original and stands on its own devilish merits. 9/10 ๐Ÿ˜Ž
