.. that we were shown for the first time how Cary looked in the future. We know that Grant MacLaren and Cary were lovers in the future (married?), which is why he finds it hard to be with his wife in the present. Realizing that he needs to try and maintain his present life he does make love to her but only when under the affects of inoculation, when he is hallucinating that she is his companion in the future (Cary), the way she looked then.
Mclarens lover looked andrgenous during the makeout session. Who says you are always transmitted into a body of the same gender...
During their downtime the team member transmitted into the body of the Junkie and the team member transmitted into the body of former football hero compare notes. The junkie says something like: We look the same age, but you are hundreds of years older than I am.
Well, that would explain why Dr Bloom greeted him like an old friend.
If he was so experienced why isn't he the team leader?
Other team leaders treat McLaren as if he was inexperienced, doesn't really understand how or whether teams collaborate. Bloom's comments to Mandy imply she was on her first mission. And, was it junkie guy who lied, and sent them on bogus missions -- implying he was on his first mission too?
they are expected to blend into their life/relationships in the present, creating as few changes as possible without attracting too much attention. This is hard enough without adding unnecessary difficulties. Peter, the drug addict was a mistake, as his online presence did not betray this information. Marcy was an even bigger mistake because they assumed from her fictional online page that she was a librarian. It was because of this that fitting in was most difficult for those two. They cannot do anything about the age and I guess as a teenager, already expected to be rebellious and unpredictable, it was easier to fit in than an older man with a wider circle of family and friends.
I was a bit disappointed at Maclaren's lack of role-playing preparation and lack of training in how to improvise and fit in. I know it is a drama but it seems like he is going to blow his cover at any moment. I guess coming from the future makes it hard to live in the present, but the first thing you need to do is be present, and all he has done mostly is be absent. Some might remember the Star Trek episode where they got sent back to 1939 and had to blend in.
