Question about beginning of episode 5

So, can anyone explain the beginning of episode 5? What was the daughter the only one freaking out about her dad almost driving them off the top of a parking garage? Why were there gopro cameras stuck all over the car? What exactly was this family supposed to be doing?

I just re-watched it and there was no explanation. It may have been edited out for lack of time but it does look strange. When I watched it the first time I just assumed the father was on a murder-suicide kind of trip and got caught up in the questions about the abduction (still unanswered). However, at second viewing, it does not explain why the mother and brother did not react to it or to her screaming. I suspect the go-pro cameras were just a cheap way to get all the footage in one go :)

It's funny, but once the SUV got T-boned it was like I forgot everything else before it in the episode. Didn't even notice a) the go-pros in the car or b) dad casually removing them. I guess he wanted a televised suicide pact scenario and that is how they knew the exact time and location for the transfer. And FWIW, they did explain a 30% misfire rate in the beginning, and Trevor I believe asked, "if you knew that would you still volunteer," which to me says that it is a case of where they cease to be in the future, trading a dystopic existence there for a possibly better one in the past.

This of course brings to mind the issues of continuing to follow the protocols. I guess if a team or individuals goes off the rails too much that the director sends back an assassination squad to correct the timeline. (note to self, short Apple with a different account).

Hopefully this is the only case where I went brain dead during an ep.
