When you see such obvious shill attempts at bolstering a show activity

You know the show isn't worth used toilet paper. If they have to resort to that.

What do you mean?

All I can see is that the message board is seeing many new participants in the last few days, which is natural, since the show just got a Netflix worldwide release of the full series.

I'm talking about people who only joined IMDB to go on and on about a single show.

That in itself is a blaring alarm. But then they do something like discuss insider information, that most other people wouldn't even care about. Like telling everybody this is a Canadian ensemble cast. Like OMG I love Canadian ensemble TV shows, sign me up! Can't get me enough Canadian ensemble.

I do like Canadian sci-fi, but I'll take Continuum or Dark Matter over this snore-fest any day.

Most of the post here are very negative. So I still don't get it. Are you saying people are paid to make posts about this? Sign me up ...

There are people advertising to write positive reviews for anything. It's why YELP is dying.

"A 2013 study by Harvard Business School indicated that 16 percent of Yelp reviews, at least in the Boston area, were fake. Amazon is also cracking down, and has sued more than 1,000 people over the past year against people for selling fake reviews."

A "shill" is someone who pretends to be an uninvolved third party, who praises something solely because they have become convinced of its true value -- but is actually an insincere, untrustworthy employee or confederate of the seller.

This is a common marketing technique of criminal con artists -- and advertizing executives.

Original poster, who may be a troll, since they didn't quote a single one of the comments that they claim triggered their concern, seems to be asserting that this board has messages that he or she can detect were written, for pay, by insincere employees of the show.

reply

Troll comments and troll threads go to ignore immediately. A shill is someone who posts "Oh I love this and I'll keep watching" as a thread within a sea of "this show is horrible" threads all full of reasons why it is horrible (read: The Divorce).

I have no problems with people complaining about this because it is clearly above their pay grade as a sci fi effort. To me, this show is like Band of Brothers, a story about a small group of characters who are operating within a much larger story. I can see the story expanding, much like Brad Wright introduced larger elements to Stargate as it progressed, and it could even be a franchise operation: Travelers; the time of Jesus, or Travelers: Rennaisance.

They cannot go back to times before computers. They mentioned that... (Because they need specifics about where people will be, or something like that)

Did you not notice that my post came before ep 11 was released?

If you want to know which comments are insincere (including the Trolls) look to the posters who give sparse reasons or none at all for their opinions, and who respond to disagreement by either reiterating what they said before or personally attacking other users. No solid reasons, petty name calling, it's easy enough to pick out these losers. Legitimate posters have obviously watched a show and give some analysis to support what they're saying. Again, it's easy to tell them apart.
