so the motivation for *spoilers* ...

the motivation to kill Mark the stepdad was that... he's kind of a jerk ? Or was there something darker implied which I missed, like abuse or assault?

Otherwise it is just that the girls were empty and bored, and slightly annoyed, and took things all the way to murder. Which, that is a worthwhile story... I just couldn't tell if Lily saw Mark as such an unbearable obstacle to her life, or was she just prone to suggestion when Amanda casually floated the idea?

She didn't really take the suggestion seriously until she found out she was going to be sent away to a boarding school for girls with behavioral issues. At that point he went from annoying stepdad to "ruining her life" from her perspective. As much of a jerk as he was, he was pretty much spot on with everything he said about her being selfish and self-centered.

i agree

I didn't find the stepdad so bad. The girls were psychos.

reply

Only Lily, Amanda merely suggested the murder but not willing to do it herself

reply

The stepdad was cold and militant. I believe they were showing that he was psychologically abusive to her mom. Then, he wanted to get rid of her by sending her away to a boarding school for behavior girls and the mom wouldn't stand up to him. If I were her, and knew I'd get away with it, I'd have killed him too.
