The Show's Claustrophobia

I tried to figure out what's responsible for it. In Episode 3, the feeling of claustrophobia is stronger than ever. I'm not the kind of viewer, or poster, who theorizes about the show's eventual outcome or even its motives. Why put everything under a microscope? It turns watching a new show into a kind of contest, which ruins the fun.

Anyway: the cinematography isn't responsible for the sense of very uncomfortable isolation. The script isn't. Hugh Laurie's voice is almost somnolent and lacking affect--even when he's under extreme duress--which is constantly.

Without theorizing about what the show is or isn't about, or who is or isn't a baddie, I have to say that the feeling of isolation and sadness is ten times stronger than "Vertigo."
