House Finale Reference? Same character?

Besides having the same voice / accent the two could in fact be the same character.

In the Pilot, when Chance is recognised: 'yeah aren't you that doctor?' he almost defensively corrects this by saying he's a psychiatrist. He does so with a quick pace with a nervous flash of his eyes.

In House, the main character faked his own death to avoid jail and spend the last months of his best friend's life at his side. After the death of Wilson one can only assume House would become a fugitive, needing to change his name..
(Eldon Chance and Doctor House, are phonetically similar; compare the way both characters introduces himself to new patients)
House was always emotionally vulnerable. Perhaps after time with Wilson and losing Wilson he emotionally matured and became less defensive.
House loves the puzzle, the puzzle of human emotion always fascinated and frustrated him. After Wilson died, he could have gained insight on complex emotion from experience and been drawn to Psychiatry. He could very well be in this particular job (third party referrals) to remain partially detached from patients, but still get his 'puzzles'
Chance is divorced. House always had problems with his romantic relationships, being emotionally closed off. Wilson was dying, even opening up to Wilson could have been a defensive move knowing that was coming.
House loved to teach and correct people. He always struck me as someone having a desire to be a father / teacher. Chance is a father.
House was a rebel without a cause. Chance is an anti hero with a cause.

Interesting theory but in this series Chance has several very long term friends and colleagues who have mentioned things about his time in psychiatry years back while still in residency. That alone would count him out pretty much. I like your theory though and it would have been fun to see some kind of tie in as I liked House as well. On a random note, I had always heard him speak only in a US accent and now I have seen him in a foreign film Hugh Laurie has such a massively different voice in his native speech. Not a detectable lisp or hard s issue either.

Mr. Penguin, Hi... what foreign film did you see him in? Chance is definitely more neurotic than House was, but I miss the character. Definitely want to watch more of Mr. Laurie's work. I forgot he's English.

I'm just wowed by how excellent this show is. (And sorry, I know that sentence is poorly constructed.) (Or is it constructed poorly?) Sigh. The writing, the acting, the direction, the set -- everything is done with style and intelligence. I can't think of anything on network TV that comes close to this.

Yay Hulu. Kudos to all for the fine work. Thank you!

Chance is a book by Kem Nunn ; the fact that Hugh Laurie was cast as a doctor is juste a coincidence.
By the way, I could see that Chance was a straight two-season order, and that the book will end at the end of the first season. Does anyone know if Kem Nunn has project of a sequel to his book ?

the book is great - i admire your restraint! my favorite is "tijuana straits." "dogs of winter" as well.

House was decisive, confident, even arrogant, and he would never be shy of afraid of offending someone.

Chance is the opposite, timid, scared and afraid to take action.
