Jack Thorne the writer of His Dark Materials is a hack.

He should be sent back to writing school to learn his craft properly, or maybe he just hasn't got what it takes.

I'll give you an example from episode six. It's the scene where the children from Cittagazze have chased Lyra and Will up onto the roof and intend to kill them. Then at the last moment Serafina Pickler arrives to rescue them.

This should have been an exciting scene but it was "painting-by-the-numbers" boring. At no time did Lyra and Will feel like they were in any real danger because the Cittagazze children didn't seem to be all that angry. And Serafina Pickler just landed on the roof between the children and Lyra and Will, gave the children a stern look and told them to leave which they immediately did, without argument.

Boring, flat, emotionless and useless writing.

Serafina Pekkala, actually. But yes, this adaptation is proving to be quite poor in relation to the books and one's own imagination.
