Why didn't Joel just take the black goo to live forever?

I mean Mr. Poplovic even straight up told them the black goo achieves the effect of immortality (i assume without the zombie side effects of needing to eat people etc). But yet they completely ignored that as if it was nothing useful to them.

I mean Sheila's blood gives people immortality without needing to turn them into full on zombies, thats fucking major news, and the perfect solution for her wanting Joel to live with her forever but him being nervous about it because of the whole zombie thing.

I thought for sure Poplovic's news about the black good giving immortality would play into the story with Joel but its like they didn't even consider it.

Was it immortality? I thought he just wanted to make a beauty cream/product that will prevent cells from aging thus no one would look old.

But maybe I missed something....will have to rewatch.

There was a lot of missing stuff there, I thought. Like they wanted to wrap up the storyline really quickly so they just glossed over it.

Do you need all of her blood? How often? How much? So many questions... They definitely should have pursued that.
