One hour into it...
... and I'm thinking I should just stop watching...
Does it improve after the first hour, or am I better off expending that time on something useful - like clipping my toenails?

I've only seen it once, so I cannot say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that if you are an hour in and not interested at all, you probably won't be by the end either. I myself like these kinds of movies, but typically speaking, only if I was interested in the real life event in the first place. And I must admit, when the whole 'Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan' thing went down, I didn't really care outside of the jokes; O.J. was much more interesting...
Even still, I found it interesting enough for a single watch. But I was just as interested an hour in as I was a half hour, as well as by then end.
Gotcha. I won't bother finishing it. Lately, I've been finding it hard to sit through movies where there's little to no narrative tension. I should just stick to my favorite genre of movies - thrillers - in future.
Thanks for your candid and helpful reply to my post, DistantWords.
Generally (although not always), the opening of any given movie indicates what kind of a movie that it will be, overall. I did not want to see "I, Tonya" at all, because I'd not only seen the trailer online, but know enough about the real-life Tonya Harding, the kind of person she is, and the whole sordid thing with Nancy Kerrigan that went down so that I did not want to see this movie, much less root for Tonya Harding.
The fact that Tonya Harding had a really hellish upbringing does not let her off the hook for her complicity in the sordid attack on Nancy Kerrigan ( i. e. Tonya's co--conspiring to obstruct the investigation and prosecution of Jeff Gillooly and his goons, which cost Tonya a promising figure-skating career, which it should have.)
