wasn't that a bit of an overreaction? (last ep spoilers)

I am not understanding what exactly J killed the lawyer for.

reply

Because he stole those properties of Smurfs and was trying to shift the blame to the lawyer as betraying Smurf...although I'm not sure he wasn't hopeful that her body might not ever get washed up (sharks) .
If she'd never been found it would've looked like she skipped out.

reply

But since when is J just a cold-blooded murderer?

reply

Yeah, that made zero sense. J went full psycho despite the fact it wasn't consistent with his personality. It came out of nowhere and just fell flat as a result.

reply

And he didn't even have any personal anger directed at her - that was straight-up psychopathic behavior.

reply

I need to admit while i like the script overall, that part wasn't very consistent. Also, stealing property is one thing, living in it or putting someone Smurf knows inside is not "smart" at all. You steal it, you sell it and you buy Something else.

reply

J wanted the sharks to get the lawyer. That was the point of dumping the bucket of flesh and blood into the water so as to draw the sharks. He had to know that if a body washed up on shore like it did then Smurf would square her focus on her dirtbag boys. I'm a little disappointed that the writers settled for a mild mind fuck by Smurf on J when she made the comment about how smart the lawyer was and whether J could be as smart. The cat is now out of the bag. Is Smurf just going to sit around and wait on J to give the properties back? That is what regular folks do but the Cody's are not regular folks.

Last night's episode was pretty disappointing for a season finale. The sex scenes would be shocking for television if this were 1990 but in 2018 all you need to do is click on or switch on in a matter of seconds to see flesh in motion. It really was filler for me. They teased Pope going off the deep end for a bunch of episodes now so last night's Pope moments were almost anti-climatic. Again if this were the television of 25 years ago we would be ok for the long tease but everything is very instant gratification oriented today. Deran's moment of moral reflection fizzled out when he went to see the mother of the parolee. Frankie some sort of 1960's Catwoman-lite with her whimsical approach to crime? More strong back and weak mind for Craig? About the only thing left for next season is the final clash between the Cody's where nobody is left standing. Good riddance, scumbags.

reply

Chum, it's called chum.

reply

Sex for the sake of sex is getting old. And the escalation for shock value is cheap. There's a place for soft porn. Network television is not it.

reply

I think the sex scenes served a purpose. Mia was really into it with J, but couldn't be more wooden with that guy who I guess is supposed to be her boyfriend.

I would think there is significance to that.

reply

Her feelings for each guy is significant, but there are better ways to show it than that. The length of the scenes were exaggerated as well. I'm far from a prude, but I really don't need to know her stance on which guy can cum in her, as well as how and when. I also don't need to see a guy's ass pumping her as she has no expression on her face, in order for me to understand her mindset. It's childish writing. It's something middle school boys would write after just hitting puberty and hoping to see "boobies".

reply

Didn't bother me. I can't say I felt any which way about those scenes.

reply

Right. You said that.

reply

I thought the "sex" scènes were fine, its not like the show is for kids and you Don't see anything anyway. It might be shocking for 1990 television but isn't the purposeof these 2000+ shows to be more mature.

I need to admit I didnt get Mia's comment to J. She said he came in her to what J. replied he was wearing a condom and then Mia said it "wasn't the point". So what was the point exactly ?

@alfredthegreat : my understanding is that Smurf gave properties to all her boys, except to J. since he already got (stole) his share. I Don't think J. has to give it back since Smurf gave him a Watch representing a notice that she knows, a statement that he's smart and a warning for the future.

I just bingewatched all three seasons. Jay is getting greedy. I lost any compassion for all of them when they did the boat heist. That was just plain mean to ruin a wedding and cut a womans finger off (I know Marco did that).
Jay killing the lawyer was so out of character that I just didnt find it credible. The writers should have kept him being the one with some sort of moral compass, like when he saved Smurf (hate that nickname) from the gunfire.
Believe it or not, I feel Pope is the more compassionate one, even though he murdered Cathy. He has demons, and they stem from Smurf, and are tearing him apart.
They finally let us know that Smurf took Baz in at 12 years old. How come they didnt explain more on all the boys background? That could be an episode or three in itself. Dennis Leary was excellent as Derans father. But the story went flat fast when Smurf had such hatred for him, and then just slept with him. Really?
Ok and Mia.... Mia was the one that shot Baz. They showed her in the hoodie after she shot him. Ok, so Smurf just lets her sleep in the house, and then is ok with Jay seeing her? The only thing I was happy about was Nicky gone..Oh God I couldnt stand her. Well, I am sure I will have more to say soon, lol

reply

Wasn't it known from pretty much the very beginning that Smurf took Baz in?

I don't recall now when exactly it was disclosed, but I don't remember it being some sort of secret, or for long.

reply

Yes they did let us know she took Baz in, but I never knew it was at 12 years old.. Thats why I would have liked more of a backstory to the boys.

reply

It seemed to me Smurf passed a contract with Pete to kill Baz but doesn't know who actually pulled the trigger (Mia). Actually, when Smurf sees Mia for the first time at her house, she probably doesn't even know Mia is working with Pete.

The first time Smurf seems to connect Mia is when she recognize her when she goes ask Pete to finish the Job (Lucy) at the end of season 3. A few minutes later, Pete is admonishing Mia which let us know Smurf just connected Mia as the love interest of J. and a possible crew member of Pete.
