Baz's dad

Who is the actor who plays Baz's dad?

I thought tonight was really messed up how Baz wanted him to be a screw up so he doesn't seem so bad.

reply

The actor is Dennis Cockrum and I thought it was interesting because he also plays the deadbeat dad Terry Milkovich on Shameless.

reply

That really got to me, the violent way Baz went at him to try to get him to drink...

reply

All Baz has to do is leave it there. The old man will drink.

I don't let anyone hot-comb out my HAIRitage!

reply

That was disturbing! Like he needs to be better than his dad, but the bar keeps getting lower. Between this scene and the one with J about Baz being his dad, I have a whole new view on Baz now. He's no better than the rest of them and possibly worse.

reply

Baz was trying to give his dad the same 'treatment' that he got from him as a child. I think he carried it out too far though.

reply

It was violent. Why does he hang around if he hates him that much? He does not have to be there. He is an adult. He was raised by someone else.
His explanation sucked-both to his Dad and to J. He is smarter than the other brothers, which makes him more dangerous. Also, the other boys don't really bond with him.

reply

He goes there to feed the cat, and hide his cash.

But I would assume he's also an emotionally stunted little boy, still trying on some level to interact with his father...that, and he's a glutton for punishment.

reply

Yah that was a little hard to watch. Good acting!

reply

Hmmmm. I saw something else.

Baz doesn't like himself. He hated how he'd just treated J. And he blames his father. It was like, how dare you try to make yourself into a decent person after you created me.

reply

Top Shelf, that's exactly what seen too.. Baz obviously has a shell up, and he didn't want to be saying them things to J, they just came out.. He doesn't know how to show emotions properly..

reply

I have no idea if he likes himself (doubt any character likes itself, forget about self love), but this

how dare you try to make yourself into a decent person after you created me
was spot on.

One of the best scenes so far. Very powerful.

reply

"Spot on." Always appreciate that reply. Yet I'm compelled to ask, if Baz is upset with how he turned out, the image of his father, how is it not obvious that he dislikes himself?

reply

It is pretty clear they all have some sort of personality disorders. If he only blames his father for creating him, there is a chance he cannot take responsibility for his actions. He is not self destructive, that is why I made that comment. He is calculated, he thinks clearly, takes care of everything, in a twisted way he may even be proud of himself. But that moment, with his father, it was moment of clarity for him and for us, the audience. We still have yet to see how messed up they all are.

reply

I kind of thought Baz needed to keep his dad messed up, so that he could continue to hide the cash there. He does not need his dad catching on to what he is doing. That and he has a lot of pent-up rage from the way he was raised, obviously.

reply

Where's Baz's bio mom? Is she dead?
