Favorite and Least Favorite Family Member?

It usually takes a while to do a bunch of ranking, but it's a bit easier to roughly pick a favorite as well as least favorite character. So out of the family members (Smurf, the 4 brothers, and J), who is your favorite, and who is your least favorite?

Favorite: Pope
Least Favorite: Baz

In a funny way, both of these characters have swapped positions from where they were towards the beginning of the series (only just a handful of episodes!).

Originally, I almost hated Pope entirely and I generally saw Baz as the most "normal" of the crew. Now it is almost the opposite, despite how crazy Pope clearly can be. Pope, however, actually had the most connection to Julia; he also has the most connection to J it seems, even if he's usually bad with him. There's been some good scenes with Pope and J, as well as relative to Julia or the family's history - it just remains that Pope is one of the most awkward, and he was sad about this when talking (again, awkwardly) with Catherine in the 7/19 episode.

Baz, on the other hand, has only gotten worse as the series has gone along. He mainly gives into Smurf the most out of the family. He leads people along as much as possible, whether it's Pope, Catherine, the other girl he is with in Mexico, J, and so on. Further, the situation he created with J around Nicky and her father - and how he reacted to J about it was so terrible.

Baz is basically the person who, if anything went even slightly wrong, would be ready to just kill J and throw him in a trash bin, along with whoever else maybe caused an issue. Pope, ready to harm or kill people outside of the family, at the same time seems like he is more loyal yet not as subservient to Smurf as the others. He may hurt them but won't kill them - he saved Baz before; he's done multiple "favors" without asking; and I imagine he'll save/protect the others.

Finally, Pope very well knows how messed up he is. He indeed is probably the smartest of the bunch, despite his mental issues. The fact that he catches onto a lot of the little hidden situations shows this, and I really liked his talk with Baz about the drugs in the 7/19 episode. And as he also said when talking to J, he knows what they all are - "goddamned animals."

Pope is also my favorite, mostly because I think the actor is amazing in this role, I just love f'ed up characters who can't quite control who they are.

Darren is my least favorite, I think he's the weak link, he's vulnerable and cowardly but not in an endearing way like Craig that would make me want to root for him and get out of this situation, furthermore he's a very whiny baby who's all talk and no show.

After Pope comes Craig, I think he's the friendliest and most sympathetic brother so far, in that he seems very frustrated with his lifestyle, not a thinker and acts mostly on impulse, he's a brawler. All and all he just makes me think of a giant hyperactive, thrill-seeking teenager with big drug problems. Also most sex scenes are thanks to him and he doesn't bully J around like the rest of them so that's a bonus lol.

Then Baz because he's the only brother who has a functioning brain apparently (Pope is low key rather smart too actually), he's more violent and sinister than he appears to be, he carries a deceptive and affable facade and I always love characters with hidden demons like that. Smurf next, because she's ice cold and takes no *beep* also she's a crime boss housewife I mean come on.

J didn't make much of an impression on me yet so he's just above Darren right now, but I think he has incredible potential. I kinda see him as the Tom Hagen of this family, he's intelligent and very studious, a guy who could blend in society unlike the rest of them.

Making this ranking as of episode 6, didn't see the new episode just yet.

Favorite: Pope
He's just an amazing and complex character. He's creepy as hell but at the same time manages to be sympathetic. I can't help but root for him.

Second favorite: Deran
His vulnerability and insecurity just breaks my heart. I find characters who pretend to be tough and aggressive in order to protect their actual fragility quite interesting.

Craig
He gained my respect in recent episodes. Before, he only had the drug addiction going for him and I found him quite boring and uninteresting. After his scenes with Smurf in episode 6 and his talk with Deran in episode 7, I have new found respect for him. Such a lovely character and awesome brother when he's not on drugs.

Least favorite: Baz

Well, here we are a few weeks later and now I basically hate every character on the show, go figure!

Pope just ruined everything in this most recent episode. What the hell?
