I hope the show eases up on the male nudity...

wtf at the constant men shirtless and ass shots?

Does it make you feel self-conscious about your own body, or does it stir up dirty thoughts that you'd rather keep repressed? Normal people aren't bothered by the human body.

reply

Neither of those things. I have no issues with the human body. I just find that the excessive showing of the male body on this show makes no sense. It doesn't add anything to the story, it isn't a plot point, it isn't anything but a dumb attempt by the network to be edgy.

More sex and nudity, less violence.

The Hallmark Channel might be a better fit for you. The male nudity was this series' only redeeming quality. The writing is terrible so it's likely to be cancelled anyway. Until then, "meet your remote control." It's your friend.

Alas, I agree. My interest was piqued by all the publicity stills featuring the smokin' hot uncles, so I tuned it in, but I didn't even stick with the pilot.

The focal character is boring, the den mother is annoying, the menacing
ex-con stepdad or oldest brother or whatever he is is a stock character.
The uncles are hot as pistols but if they're just going to be supporting characters there's not enough to the other characters & situations to engage me.
I turned it off, after a short while.

A naked son walks into the kitchen in front of his whole family -- including his mother -- and you've gleaned nothing relevant about the characters and the family dynamic from that? You need to go back to Sesame Street and leave the serious TV for the grownups.

reply

Actually it does have a point but usually nudity is presented in TV Shows as a way to appeal to the Straight Male Demographic and here it's being liberal to the women and Gay men. I think it's fair of you to ask why and to be concerned by use of it but I'd say you're just used to what WAS the standard of catering to Straight Men. Also, it is possible there is an upcoming gay subplot and this is showing the seduction of a character that hasn't come out as gay yet. Or it could just be showing the corruption of someone innocent into a world of crime.

The only one that has not shown his 'asset' is Speedman....think it would ever happen? Oh no, he just lost his lover.

I was thinking the same thing when the dude woke up in bed with two naked hotties. They went out of their way NOT to show even an ass of either of the girls but then the camera does a long follow down the hallway of the dude's ass. This is because it is a show where they think guys will tune in for the action and they are hoping house fruas will tune in for the man ass. However, the show really sucked anyway so I am not going to worry about it.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

I'm not so sure that's what is going on. It appears this TV series meant to be inspired by the Aussie film of the same title. In that story, it's the mother whom is in power and showing male nudity, her sons' nudity, specifically, is not gratuitous. It shows the lack of boundaries. It tells the audience they are in a very different place now.

The Scott Speedman character tells the mother of his child that he "had to head back home" meaning his Mom's place... which is quite different from enjoying a healthy relationship with your Mom. A toddler will run gleefully through a house naked, but even nudists have adapted to putting on clothes when new people are around. These "man/boys" have not matured or developed emotionally. That image of vulnerability was meant to catch attention.

I think the OP's objection is that now, men's bodies are being treated like property to be assessed and valued, just as women's have been. Nudity is a form of vulnerability so it may take a little time for some folk to evolve to accepting that image for males.

Of all the things a viewer could object to: a wetsuit erection from threatening a human being with a gun, for example? or the actual physical violence between characters, and the OP's having a problem with a man's behind, so beautiful it could be in a museum! Or, Playgirl or a Gay man's magazine.

What can I say... thank you Matthew McConaughey/Magic Mike for pushing through that sexist oppression. Naked men... it's a good thing. :)

Wow, all this 'turmoil' over a male naked ass...imagine if they showed the 'whole' package? LOL

After watching the pilot, I can't give the show credit for doing something deep like that. maybe.

Not in this case it is not. It is the opposite. It is a sign of power and confidence. I am going to swing my dick all over the place, who cares? (of course I do believe there is a strong sense of inappropriateness hinting toward incest among the mother and boys). But I think the male nudity in this show is there for titillation (just like in magic Mike) and for a bit of shock value to show how cool they are in keeping with your theory about the shunning of so-called "sexist oppression". But realistically, men (from big stars like Stallone, Richard Gear, Kurt Russell, Mel Gibson, etc)have been showing their asses all over the screen for over 20 years. Nowadays, pretty much every tv shows on HBO or other cable channels show male nudity). It is the cool thing to do. A lot of them even show male genitalia which I do not believe I have ever seen of a woman in a cable show or R rated film. (maybe that famous flash scene of Sharon Stone?)

Magic Mike was different in that I guess it focused on male nudity. Kind of like Showgirls did for men. Definitely groundbreaking. But as a hetero male I was never a fan of that anyway. Sure show a shot of a nice ass - it is not a bad thing. But not a reason to watch a film or tv show for me. Maybe when I was 14. No, definitely when I was that age! But of course I see no reason why there should not be movies like MM since there are movies like Showgirls and Striptease, etc.

Just my opinions. Certainly would not mind an intelligent dialogue on the subject. As a male, I am sure I see things differently from a female's perspective!

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

reply

Now you know what is like for women. And if male nudity bothers you so much maybe you should re think some things....

reply

As a bisexual woman I wish there was equal nudity.
