Soap Opera?

Doesn't the scenario of this show give vibes of a soap opera? The more attention it gets, then they give it a second season and then a third and etc. With all these characters, they are going to milk it for what its worth. What are we going to watch in most shows that follow....? Preparations for another heist? Who sleeping with whom? Who is who's father? Are they ever getting caught by the police? If they do, there goes the show. I liked the show..but so far, I don't think its worth a second season if what they showed so far.

I think heists will become the least dangerous criminal activity invlving this family in the future.

Since it was adapted from an Australian movie, they have to add plot lines to keep it moving and some will be soapy. As another poster mentioned, the heists are not the real story. The real story is the family breakdown and how they all start to turn on each other.

Well, call me crazy...isn't that the perfect scenario for a soap opera? I'm not saying the show isn't interesting, but I can't see it going for a second season or a third.

reply

It already got a second season...

I'd still call it a drama as opposed to a soap, at least so far.

No just like most shows it has it's soap operatic moments but that's it.

Thats always the problem with succesful shows, and the recent years had quite a lot of them which were way too long. Lost and How I met your mother are prime examples. So far I liked Animal Kingdom; it has, kind of, a little campy vibe (in the same region of original "Point Break"), so they might risk it.
I don't think it should have more than 2 seasons. Now the succesful heist, next season the downfall of the family.

Thats the problem with a lot of American shows. They keep going even when the story should really be over. It s seen as a failure to only have less than 4 or 5 seasons. I would rather watch (and rewatch) a series that was good with a proper story for a couple of seasons than slowly watch it descend into crap.
