The movie is much different.

Baz dies really early in the film. The cops have it out for them MUCH harder in the film and just kill him out of cold blood which makes pope go sort of crazy in retribution. Pope in the show is more angry of a person in general.

They are quite different from each other actually.

The movie so far is better. Smurf isn't nearly the same character at all.

The TV show Smurf is better... But... all the boys in the movie are better and more realistic, less over the top. The boys also seem ALOT more on edge in the movie.

How did get out from what OP said that the show is worse? Yea, he liked the movie better but never said that show was bad/worse. The show is REALLY good. I never saw the movie but heard good things about it and people who praised it also love the show but if you wanna not have your opinion and not give it chance cuz somebody else like the film more and "implied" that it's terrible than that's on you while the rest of us happily wait for the 2nd season

Yea, I didn't say don't watch the TV show. They are both different.

Now that the movie is over I have more insight as well.

In the movie, things are coming to a close for the family and they seem to want to GET out of crime because the heat is on them hard. Not so in the TV show.
They seem like they are not worried about the law YET in the TV show but by the end they are sort of worried but then the young lad pulls a twist compared to what happens in the movie.

A few major differences in the film. The mother who ODed on drugs was killed by "the family" in the movie. In the TV show... it's not like that. She just dies from an overdose.

Pope dies in the movie... at the end quite shockingly as well. The kid really got his revenge and smurf seemed to have nothing to say about it for some reason as if she had no power over the boys like in the TV show. Ellen Barkin is a much more powerful Smurf character.

The one guy who is hinted at being "gay" in the movie is gay for 100% in the TV show. They hint about it in the movie but almost as a passing joke because of the way he dresses.... but it's never confirmed as far as I recall.

So both are worth a watch in my opinion.

The movie had to end... so the show can do much more with the characters.

The movie ended how the show should end though because Pope does do something very bad at one point... kill that dude's GF. And he did it for no reason at all except his own paranoia. The show plays out things a bit smarter because characters do things out of reasoning, not so much paranoia.
