Why do the Americans have to remake everything?

Even stuff that's in English?

Can they really not understand accents other than their own?

How come the rest of us can?

Australians should take it as a compliment the US adapting their films, to a point. Just saw Scott Speedman on Colbert, no mention of the show being an adaptation. When US take an idea from another country they have a strong tendency to pass it off as their own creation. Oh, look, this great show we made it, it's new.

Also, the Australian film was based on real life criminals and murders. Having said that, there are common issues that both countries have, criminal families, poverty, matriarchal domination. It will be interesting to see it and compare.

Matriarchal Domination? There's a problem with women running things? WTF?

Im American and I dont like this series idea as the 2010 film was excellent. Im sure it will suck as the Aussie version had a grit the Hollyweird crowd cant replicate well.

You've hit the nail squarely on the head. I've watched the move 2 or 3 times and it is fantastic, it has a real dark air of menace running through it that i just haven't seen in the four episodes i've watched so far. It's just too clean.

i think with remakes, you just have to separate it from the original and watch as a new show. the movie had a clear beginning, middle, end. this show will have parallels, but that's all.

Hmm, I wasn't aware that we're the only country that does re-makes.

Should see how many remakes the Brits do....and a majority of our shows are original.....

Come on you dumb ass aussie, this isn't a remake its an extension. The original was a 2hr film, this is a series that could go several seasons.

^^ This.

Dumb ass Aussie? Arrogant much?

The second it went from the east coast of Australia to the west coast of the USA, it became a remake.

Yes, it's the accents. They planned to use the original two hour film and chop it into 12 equal pieces for a series, but the bloody accents were a problem.

Your film is still intact and no harm done. You have free choice in watching this or not. As usual these threads are just opportunities for some flag waving anti-American bias.

I've watched both the original British version of shameless and the American showtime version. The American one is better in my opinion. Maybe it's just because I don't get a lot of the British references.

Television is just a business, so I would say money was the deciding factor. If writers, directors and actors were running things there would probably be more quality shows on the air.
