The title

I saw this on Netflix within the past week. I was thinking about it again, and when I tried to recall the name, I honestly typed in "The French Doctor." This brings me to the point that the "translation" of "The African Doctor" really makes no sense. Anyway, besides the title, I really liked the off-beat editing and thought that the whole story played out in a way that wasn't too heavy-handed.

(SPOILER)

The only thing that sort of bugged me was the fake "old age" makeup that was applied to the actress near the end. It rang just as false as the kids' play of "reality" as they witnessed their parents living it from their perspective, meaning, it almost seemed like dressing up, like, see, this country has no racial boundaries, as long as they're controlled and "made up." Strangely, I would have thought nothing of seeing an elderly actress on the screen who barely resembled the wife.

The French title is "Bienvenue à Marly-Gomont," or "Welcome to Marly-Gomont."
