Watching it now.

Starts with mom, new husband, and step-daughter in restaurant. SD asks why his schools have no record of him, and he admits to lying about his background, but gives a cover story.
After mom and daughter leave, he attacks and presumably kills a man who had recognized him.
Next day he kills daughter's friend who was snooping around the house.
And so forth. Turns out he seems to be some sort of a foreign spy.

Did you see it from the beginning? Those incidents you describe happened around the middle part of the movie.

Note it was 4 months ago. I can't remember for sure, but as I recall I saw all if it. At the moment, I can't recall why I wrote this post; perhaps the idea was to create a synopsis. I think I was experimenting with writing while watching it, so I just described the high points.

During the part in the restaurant, I couldn't help face-palming. "Yeah, that's right—tip your hand to the guy and put him on the alert—make yourself a target, before you've got all your ducks in a row..." I know she was trying to shock her mother into taking positive action by the 'surprise' revelation; but the logical thing to do would've been to turn the evidence she found over to the police and let them handle it. If she had done that when that first woman victim ended up dead, he'd have been a 'person of interest' from then on and their investigation would've likely uncovered incriminating evidence a lot faster (with their access to informational resources) and more safely than her playing Nancy Drew.

And I'm not sure, but were they trying to present the NSA in a positive light?
