Nice.

I'm not sure why the article is framed around Barbie. There wasn't any chance that Sight & Sound would ever vote Barbie as its best film of the year. Have the people at Metro never read Sight & Sound?

They'll be shocked to discover Barbie hasn't made the Cahiers du Cinéma list either.

I'm shocked they voted Barbie in the 'Top 5' (or Top 7 I guess)

Killers of the Flower Moon was also voted Best Picture of 2023 by the National Board of Review -- whatever that is.

Some of these early awards don't really predict Oscar -- the Golden Globes comes closer.

Still, "KIllers of the Flower Moon" is now "staked out" for Oscar noms -- the subject matter, Scorsese(who says he may not have many more films left to make -- just like Tarantino, except because of age.) The Native American lead actress. Probably DeNiro, maybe Leo -- and all the craft/technical awards.

What's the competition? Likely Oppenheimer.

"Barbie" seems to be getting a big push for Best Original Screenplay(that wasn't that good, but its the only "clear" category.) The art direction and cinematography are probably going to be up. And maybe Ryan Gosling for Support.

Something to remember: Scorsese's last one -- The Irishman -- got all sorts of Oscar noms (including both Pacino and Pesci for Best Supporting Actor)...but won none.

Oh, they often put a big blockbuster movie somewhere on the list (or it feels like they do). They're not completely averse to fun or things that make shedloads of cash.

But Metro pretending to be shocked that the UK's leading 'cinephile' publication didn't go with Barbie as The Best Film of the Year... I just... um... OK, this is the magazine that last year voted Jeanne Dielman as the Best Film Ever Made.

Did Metro run an article wondering why Star Wars missed out? It's Sight & Sound, man. It's not Entertainment Weekly.
