The town?
The title makes me think of Bodie, CA. Does anyone have any info on which town or where it's set?

shareThat is a true statement. It also used locations in Rio Arriba County, e.g., Black Mesa, the mountains outside of Santa Fe and the Rio Grande River in the same area.
The cinematography was very well done and really profiled the gorgeous landscapes and skies of northern New Mexico. The musical score added to the overall effect.
While there may have been some portions in which story license may have been in play, what movie/mini series hasn't used such licence? It didn't detract in the overall from what I considered an excellent series.
