so what was the significance of nobody caring?

I am still curious about the point or the statement the creators of the show were trying to make with this.

We see that almost everyone is pretending to care about Chantal's disappearance purely out of hypocrisy, the vigil was indeed a circus. But then we also see that even her own family just keeps going about their lives like nothing even happened. They don't seem to be broken up about her at all - if anything, their words about her at the bridal dress shop come off as perfunctory. They only mention her because they think they should.

So... what are we as viewers supposed to infer from that?

You can infer that this is a black comedy. It's a satirical look at modern culture.

That our culture is shallow and vapid... if it's not trending on social media, do we care? I'd like to think that on some level, her family knew that Chantal was just throwing an adult tantrum and had wandered off on her own.

I mentioned in some other thread on here a couple of days ago that it was kind of obvious (to the viewer) from the start that Chantal's actions were those of a plain and altogether unremarkable girl who was trying to attract attention to her person and make herself more important (however fleetingly).

But then that's just so cruel! In other words, she suspected that no one truly cared about her, and then when she supposedly disappears we see a confirmation that that is indeed the case.

You should be able to relate to this quite strongly. I don't get why this confounds you so.

Why do you keep asking questions for which there can be no concrete answers? You are never satisfied. We have all given clear, concise responses and then you argue with your same opinions over and over again. Go ask the writers of this show if it's really that important for you to know why fictional characters in a comedy act the way they do.

I think this matters to you because you have nothing else.

You are familiar with the concept of a discussion board, right? It exists for the purpose of... that's right, holding discussions.

If you have nothing of any value or substance to contribute, OR if you are not interested in some particular topic, don't participate (revolutionary idea, I know) - how many times have I told you this by now already??

Yeah, I get the concept. But you are treating it like a beating a dead horse board. Same sorta inane questions and then arguing about the responses to questions with no answers.

I thought the show was a pretty clever satire on Millennials' self centeredness. All of the characters' decisions, including Chantal's, was based on what was best for them.

I agree and will add .... I can identify with Dory minus that boyfriend of hers . Dory was not living up to her potential and she really needed to "feel" or "do" something else at first for purpose but later it was the rush of something different & mysterious .Chantal was a conduit nothing else and they didn't care at all I bet they don't chill with her anymore lol

The poster means that Dory didn't care about finding Chantal because she cared about Chantal. Her being missing allowed Dory to tap into something she was interested in and found confidence in doing. Chantal = conduit.
