Elliott

Is the most unlikable character! I mean they're all unlikable, but still have some sort of redeeming quality or do something nice for another person. But Elliott is just so unbelievably selfish. I understand that it's a commentary on his generation (not all of gen y are so repugnant) but they didn't counterbalance it at all with him, like with the others.

I agree, the character was pretty great. He stole the show.

Whoa, lol, that's not what the OP was saying at all! 

The actor is hilariouss.

Speaking of Elliott, I knew the moment he first mentioned his stage 4 lymphoma (does he even know what "stage 4" means?) that there was no way he ever had cancer. He is just too much of a selfish and immature douchebag to ever have gone through any experience of that nature.

In other words, I am in total disbelief that everyone around has just been taking his word on it the entire time. He seems like the unlikeliest candidate for "stage 4 lymphoma".

also when the journalist was from NY Mag, they are infamous for hanging out with the people they profile only to write hit pieces on them

I'd compare Elliot to Elijah from HBO's Girls.
The characters are similarly selfish however Elijah has some redeeming qualities. Elliot seems plain narcissistic.
The acting though was pretty good. And the actor reminded me of Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone) from Full House.

The intent isn't primarily commentary, he's absurdist humor. Hence the *unbelievable* part.

And really his personality is the key that provides the funniest moment of the season in the finale.

True, it would seem Elliott doesn't have many redeeming qualities... at all LOL! This thread actually got me thinking and the only one I could really come up with was his unconditional loyalty to his friends. He was willing to lie for Dory about spending the night in a museum, he was willing to drive to Canada at a moment's notice, he went to the cult meeting, and he seemed to feel genuine remorse about his lies when Portia told him her dad died from cancer. And he did actually go to Africa and work with people to build homes, and his charity Pour was legit, so there's another redeeming quality.
