Katie Otto is NOT FAT! I wish the show would stop saying she is, stop making jokes about her weight and start making jokes about other aspects of motherhood and leave her weight alone. There is plenty of material to mock motherhood without bringing up weight.

Compared to other women, Katie Otto is fat. Just accept it.

Compared to what is consider "skinny" now? She is like a 12 or 14 which is not fat. It makes me so sad to see her get berated about her weight. Not funny.

I wouldn't say she is fat, but slightly overweight.
And compared to the other women in thst town, she seems even heavier.
They harp on it to just show how superficial people around there are.
Overweight or not, she is adorable!

I agree that Mixon's character being overweight shouldn't be the forefront of every episode, but if you consider the original name of the series, you would understand. The show was originally called "The Second Fattest Housewife In Westport"!

Since so much of the show is commentary that goes on inside her head, and how she doesn't fit in (in many ways, she is a free spirit), that is why so much is on her weight - it is what she is thinking about (along with her kids). The writers are putting more things above her weight (really her character's own self image) in the last few episodes. It is sad that compared to the size 00 (that is double zero) mothers, she is "fat". It is all a competition, since the other parents have people to do everything for them and their children. The Otto's do things for themselves, as a family, and that should be the real takeaway.

The series makes the statement several times that she is a normal sized woman. She is only fat compared to the westport women.
