Proof that they can still make great movies
If they want. Phenomenal movie.
Oh, and not a woke moment in this whole thing.

I was actually interested in this film, but sort of steered clear.
You say there's no wokeness in the film? I think I will add it to my watchlist then.
Thanks for the info.
I enjoyed it and Paul Raci’s performance is superb, but I found it just a little underwhelming as a whole, a little cliched. Definitely worth a watch though.
shareWhat did you find cliched about it?
I thought the film had many unexpected turns. It seemed like the director intentionally tried to stay clear of cliches.
Even the concept of the movie - a drummer going deaf - seems kinda original.
Perhaps cliched wasn’t the best word... but I did find something familiar about many of the story tropes - cocky artist stricken with disability, the relationship with the girlfriend, the initially rocky but developing rapport with the mentor figure, the scenes with the cute kids etc. As I said, Raci was blinding - he and the superb sound design are award-worthy, but I don’t think anything else truly stood out. An interesting film, though.
sharePerhaps you're right. I have to admit I was very surprised when .. *spoiler*... He visited his girlfriend at the end and she was living with her dad, not an old boyfriend like I expected.
Agree that the sound design was superb, and the acting top-notch.
The best thing about this film is the lack of clichés in a type of film that can so easily abuse clichés
shareWho is they? I take it you don't watch many foreign films, because countries like South Korea and Japan are regularly churning out masterpieces.
