Nothing exciting in this episode, unlike the first couple of seasons of the show.
The lead actor has little charisma and is actually very unlikable, the characters are all boring, including the CTU team, and the whole show was nearly sleep inducing.
The bolder action moment was inspired, but other than that, it was a very mediocre start to the new series.
The writers need to spend a couple years writing and planning a final epic season with Bauer back, with a slower build up like the first two seasons.
Barely any emotion in any of the character's faces here.
Possible mole at CTU AGAIN. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz
All this based on one episode?? If you weren't stupid I'd correct you but.........and SCD is one of the worst pilots ever shown on TV with some of the worst over the top acting by professional actors.
I made a decision only to start watching this season when Tony shows up and I meant it. I'll read the summary of the episode and that is it. As soon as Tony shows up, I'll watch. I'm not surprised at all to hear this is a snoozefest. It LOOKS like one, through and through.
*slow clap* I know said poster I replied to quite well, already hated every single aspect of this season I'd read/seen in previews, so yes--I'll take his word for it.
That's people's problem nowadays--they need to take a bite out of a turd sandwich in order to know for sure even though all the flies, smell and putrid look give it away.
*Slow clap* I applaud myself for looking at a turd and just saying: "Yep--it's a turd".
You're right! It's FUN being a smartass on the internet!
You're choosing to listen to about a third of the board who didn't like this. Most people did, it was a fun episode of television, you don't want to watch it and thats fine, but this selective memory thing everyones doing to convince themselves the show was bad and will fail is getting old.
Who cares if you're tired of it? People have genuine reasons for hating it even without watching it, whether you like it or not. People hate how this show just jumps headlong into another set of characters while leaving the old guard in unresolved limbo. That is more than enough reason for people to hate on it and not give it a "fair shot".
Many fans don't like getting a bag over their heads after a decade of loyal fan service. That's reality. Deal with it.

I'm not "choosing" to listen to anyone. I made my mind up about this CRAP on my own over a year ago and this was always my decision. Hearing people who hate all the same things that I hate about thing saying they didn't like it is good enough for me to realize that I made the right decision.
I do NOT like the premise of Legacy and I do NOT like how they decided to do this rather than wrapping up the old characters they left in the wind and that's all there is to it. I'm watching Tony only because I'm hoping for closure.
I'm not watching this bait n' switch 24 for any other reason. This show was tired and repetitive over three seasons ago and this is just another retread of it all. It's about the characters for me at this point--nothing more.
Most people did
Do you have some sort of proof to back that up? You're just writing words and not doing much else here...

What the hell are you talking about?

I'm talking about selective memory. Everyone is choosing to only remember the bad comments, bad reviews and ignoring the good to further their own opinion.
And fine whatever, judge something you haven't seen.
Good comments and reviews. There are plenty of them online and even on this board. I don't know whats so hard to understand. A lot of people seem to only listen to the BAD REVIEWS and negative comments and ignore the good ones because they were determined to hate the show before even watching it.
I didn't base my decision not to watch the Tony-less episodes on any reviews PERIOD. I was opposed to this Legacy revamp from the start because of they way they left several stories incomplete. I also didn't care for the tired, rehashed story premise, nor did I care for any of the trailers or the acting I saw from any of the characters. I didn't need someone to tell me Hawkins sucks--I felt that from the moment I saw him in the promos/trailers.
I wouldn't have watched this at ALL if not for the inclusion of Tony. I didn't use reviews to arrive at any of my decisions, so stop presuming to lump me in with anyone else.
We all know they real reason they don't like it. They can't stand watching anything that doesn't star a white guy in the lead role, especially if its part of a franchise that previously had a white guy as the main character.

You can choose to wait all you want. I'm a huge fan of the original series as well. I'm also not blinded by nostalgia and was willing to give this a chance. It delivered and had that definite 24 feel to it all around.

What you call "blinded by nostalgia" I call "wanting the writers to finish what they started before moving on". If that constitutes for "blinded by nostalgia" then I'm happy to wear that as a badge of honor.
Your loss, that's all I'm saying.
You're right--I'm missing out on watching something that has 0% appeal to me. A happy loss.

Jack was a little sour and uptight early on, sure, but he was likable and had a lot of screen presence. Corey is not likable at all in the role, is annoying in the role, looks too feminine, and his acting is mostly wooden.
He just has very little presence.
Everyone else was boring too, except maybe the woman who played his girlfriend.
So Jack was unlikable early on, but apparently improved over time. And yet, in the very first hour the current actor is already pronounced to be not likable and annoying.
As for "wooden," much as I love Kiefer Sutherland (and I do) I have to say that he always seems to play Jack Bauer, no matter what movie or show he's in.
As someone who watched the original every week as it aired, I never watched for the characters anyway. Sorry. I watched for the real-time format that made all the action seem so urgent, for the plot twists, and for the overall spectacle and thrill of it. It was pure escapism for me. I never felt gypped by not seeing a conclusion to Jack's story. Sorry. Was I supposed to? I don't. I am watching Legacy for the same reasons I watched the original series, and I would watch a new season with a new title character too because that simply isn't why I watch the show.
This sounds quite stupid. Who the hell invests themselves in a story and not care about any of the characters? The characters MAKE a story--ANY story. What you stated is absurd.
The characters propel the action and the plot, let's stop pretending this was a character drama. It's 24, not Breaking Bad. The characters have always been tools, I mean they made them do so many illogical things and made them moles at will. Even the actors were told to always be ambiguous because the writers had no set plan for them. Jack was more rounded than the others but he had to be. The others were cannon fodder who could be killed or turned into moles whenever it served them. Let's not pretend this show is something it's not. That being said, my point remains: I watch for the action and the suspense. The characters are merely the vehicles of those elements.
I agree that they could have cast the lead better. Some other black guy would have been fine but how about ... a Latino or Asian guy? gasp! This guy just doesn't have the hero vibe. Kinda has a child's head shape and doesn't seem to command any authority.
Everyone else is just meh.
I was not impressed with the action. We've seen the rolling tube shootout before and the rebar stab was pathetic. Prime time 80's style action. ho-hum.
The taser in CTU was an attempt to be like 24 of old except they ramped up too early. It was a little overboard considering that she didn't know the stakes yet.
Surprisingly/sadly the high school scene was the most intriguing part.
