Where are the Black Latinxs?!

I'm loving all of the recent shows with Latinx casts, but where are the darker skinned people? Jane the Virgin is set in Miami, for crying out loud, there are Black people everywhere in MIA. Elena of Avalor, Superstore, too. At least Telenovela and The Mysteries of Laura had some, but sadly, both were canceled. I'd love to see Latinxs of every hue and background represented.

Where are the black latinos? It would be a nice start to first get Cubans! That's a non-Cuban cast playing Cubans. Where are the Cubans?

There are plenty of black Cuban actors, Laz Alonso, Gina Torres, Faizon Love, Christina Milan, even Fantasia is said to be of Cuban ancestry! There are also a lot of white Cuban actors: Cameron Diaz, Eddie Cibrian, Joanna Garcia, Bella Thorne, Raul Esparza, Ana de Armas, etc...

Problem is that Hollywood thinks that all "Latinos" need to look like the stereotypical "Latino" think Mexican American, so they rarely cast Cubans to play Cubans, because most Cubans are either too white or too black. Black and white Cuban actors complain that they never get casted to play their own ethnic group! Can you imagine that?

I totally agree. I read that the head writer is Cubana, hopefully she can effect change.

What the hell is a Latinax?

From what I understand, "Latinx"is a new word that is supposed to be more inclusive. The "x" was added to "Latin" to include: agender or nonbinary to gender non-conforming, genderqueer and genderfluid people.

It's called acting.

There's an opportunity for you to write about that..instead of complaining about what's not there, use it as a means and inspiration to create something new. If I was to write a spec script or a pilot to a TV sitcom, it would definitely be about what I know...which is being of Mexican and Filipino descent growing up on both sides of the boarder and dealing with
adversities...but I'm not a writer....you never know, maybe
you'll be the first writer to have an all Blatino/a cast for a sitcom, award winning theatrical pic, mini-series,etc.
