So many questions...

I’ve just finished this series but I feel like I’m left with so many questions??

What was with the cat in the laundry room and the can of insects??

Why did they include the scenes with the guy who’s clearly a serial killer but have no follow up/story involving the agents??

Why did no one believe it was important to get into the minds of these killers, they made so many good arguments but everyone kept denying it was worth anything which was frustrating. They even caught killers! I’m guessing this is a reflection of the time period.

What happened at the end? Did he have a panic attack, did everything eventually catch up to him?

Is there a season 2??? Please say yes!

I actually really liked this series it just left a few things unanswered.

I found the conclusion less than satisfying, but I'm all in for season two to have those questions answered. Hope they renew it.

It was already renewed for a second season before the first one was released. I guess they are confident about the show.

The cat:
May be implying there is a killer nearby who is just starting out by killing animals. Might Wendy be in danger?

The serial killer with no explanation:
Clearly that is BTK who toyed with police and wasn't caught until much, much later. Funny how they made him resemble his older self with the balding. Real pictures show him with more hair and better looking.

Cops had/have a good guy vs bad guy mentality. They wanted to catch them, not understand them.

Ford had a panic attack probably because all the grisly stuff is in his head. He's consumed by it then he's pushed over the edge when Kemper hugs him, not knowing if he's about to be murdered.

My guess is there has to be a season 2. The first episode wasn't great but I was hooked all the way through.

I thought with the cat, that maybe it wasn't a cat there and the insects were eating the food all along, that's how I took it anyway. 10 episodes was not enough, I also found it weird that we had 1 episode in the middle that was only 34 mins long

Originally we heard a miao, so there was a cat, but maybe it died? Maybe it was injured the reason it was hiding, and then died?

If you recall the entire season Bill complained that he couldn't handle the conversations with all those serial killers, but that Holden was somehow immune to it. My understanding is that at the end it did all hit Holden, especially when the hug demonstrated exactly what kind of individual considers him his friend.

Cat is dead... Bugs ate Tuna... Thematically symbolising how the evil that they are investigating is affecting their personal lives... removing anything that is kind and pure...

The uncaptured serial killer is to build up for season 2, but also to show that there are more killer out there despite everyone's efforts...

Panic attack... These are love pangs due to his realisation that he has close, maybe even sexual feelings for the big serial killer... lol... no... just a panic attack having realised that he is alone and his closest remaining relationship is with a killer psycho...

I completely agree with Renovatio on all points EXCEPT for meaning of the final scene: his panic attack is caused by the realization that he has gotten too close to these monsters, one considers him his bestie, he has been in danger in some of the interviews and did not consider it because he thinks he has been able to control the interviews and situations because of the a,lint on insight he has been able to gain. It all comes to him when he realizes he is in extreme danger, triggering the panic attack. I think the build up to this has been the growing disdain/concern his girlfriend and Bill have been expressing to him which he has just blown off until now.
Not the ending I was expecting but that is one of the great things about the show - it has been hard to predict (except for when local LE call them in - you know they are going to succeed; I suspect that changes some in Season 2 or, at least, it takes much more time for them to solve a murder or 2.

I think Holden thought he was in extreme danger. It didn't help that Kemper obviously waited until the supervisors were distracted to get up. He may have only wanted a hug, but he certainly sounded sinister, and he may have been enjoying scaring Holden. Rather surprising that he wasn't cuffed to the bed, frankly. The surgery bit made it sound as though he were badly injured, but a cut on the arm? Likely the only danger was blood loss, and he was obviously not incapacitated. Given his character, it would not have been surprising if he had tried to kill Holden, as he seemed to feel somewhat betrayed.
