Theory

Theory:

Woman in white = Angel/Spirit of the village/The Good Force/God.
Stranger = Devil/Evil Force
Shaman = Devil's Agent/Servant/Slave

I am not even considering that That woman in white is Evil in anyway.

The woman in the white has actually set a trap for the Devil (Stranger). However She has left the Choice with the Hero (Freewill). So since the Hero doesn't believe God's/Angel's word, he faces the consequences. The Evidence is in the Shriveled Flowers at the gate, which are also present at the starting of the movie at another victims house.
The God lies to him, that he has sinned and that's why his daughter is going through the Punishment. Lies because It's god who punishes people for sinning, not the devil. Devil picks his victims randomly, like catching a fish (Evidence is blatantly there). And God lied because that was the only to convince the Hero, God was helpless as it had no substantial proof for what it was saying.
When Shaman was hammering Nails in that wooden status, is was the girl that was suffering because she was still not completely under spell. The stranger was suffering because the woman in white was punishing her. Evidence is there when she walks outside his house; just after the stranger recovers. However what doesn't make sense is why was the Devil chasing the girl in the Jungle before he met with accident with Hero's truck. Devil was punished just night before by the woman in white, why would she be scared of him?
Also The Woman in white tried to tell hero the truth inside the Burned house. Warning him to do something about it.

However there are too many convenient coincidences and inconsistencies that don't make sense.

1. Just by sheer coincidence, Hero and the Pastor never saw what was in the Photograph Room while the dog was attacking them at the Strangers house but the other police officer was standing there shell shocked although they were just feet away from it. Cause if they had seen it, They would have arrested the stranger straight away.
2. Too many people died in that Village, under any circumstances some kinda emergency will be called by the Government and for the least Govt would send Some doctors to the Village.
3. The Shaman was called by the Grandmother, How did she know about that specific Shaman?
4. When Shaman ran away from home after puking Blood, Why was he seeing Locust, who was scaring him? How did he get the confidence to get back to Hero's house when he had just Puked Blood. No way Shaman would have know of Hero's decision. If hero had believed the woman in white, Shaman would be driving back to certain trap. Huge presumption on Shaman's part.
5. The Pastor walking in the Cave to meet the Devil just doesn't make sense. That whole sequence is there just to reveal that Stranger is the Devil. Writer couldn't find a credible way to reveal the truth to the audience in the end. That whole sequence is forced and shows Bad writing.
6. Was the Woman in white just trying to save two families? if she is really the savior then why didn't she try to save other people?
7. If devil can't be killed which is clear after the accident. why was it trying to run away from the hero and his friends, hanging from the cliff and all that? That sequence and more becomes fallacious the moment we come to know that the Devil can't die.

I can write so much more but I am just too tired now.

1. I can take that as it would have ended the movie. So it's fine.
2. Good point but maybe for the sake of the story. Lets digest it.
3. This should have been explained in the movie. Would have been very useful to determine if shaman was working with the japanese man or not.
4. That's the point i can't figure out. Who sent the crow to his place ? Who sent the locusts ? Why would be come back to Jung's home after what the lady in white did to him?
5. I agree. But maybe it was just a dream sequence. Pastor saw the devil mocking jesus,maybe thats cuz he believes in jesus.Who knows ?
6. Exactly. She didn't save anyone from the village.
7. This is the *beep* part of the movie. If he didn't die from the accident then Jung didn't sin and the lady in white(guardian) should have saved him.
Like someone said in the message board that it was lady trying to kill the japanese man during the exorcism by the shaman,why would she run away from him when he sees her after falling from the cliff.She could've have killed him like she tried before.

I think the director wanted to leave the movie open for interpretations ,but left so many things unclear that he lost it.

7. Wasn't jung's initial sin adultery?
