Movie would have been so much better if they did not put in xsitianity

Come on! everyone knows that Buddhism and its culture is highly evolved and makes the abrahamic christianity like a toddler. Please. The movie would have been so much better if they improved on the shaman angle instead of concentrating in the fake religion established after 325 AD

I don't see why you're complaining, since this film portrayed Christianity as useless. The shaman, on the other hand, would have successfully killed the demon if the policeman hadn't stopped the shaman's ritual.

I guess you missed the scene where the Catholic priest told the policeman, "We can do nothing for you." As an atheist, I enjoyed a good laugh at that.

Shaman admits he performed ritual on the wrong person...I think shaman is on the evil side?..anyway I wanted the movie to go intense without going side rack, christianity did not add anything specifically to the movie as you said which is exactly my point..

Ignoring your somewhat discriminatory comments on the religion, Korea seems to have a love/hate relationship with Christianity. I'm not an expert on the country, but it seems like every other Korean flick I've seen loves Catholic imagery, while also deconstructing or putting down the religion.

I don't know how common Buddhism is in Korea, or how the country views it. The dynamic of the religions in the movie might've been lost if it had replaced Catholicism.

South Korea has a very large Christian population. They even have megachurches. Kind of weird to expect them to exclude a large part of their own culture which just so happens to be directly relevant to the good/evil themes of the film.

nkimnyung: For the record, "Prove that Korean Shamanism is false" is a logical fallacy. That;s like saying "Prove that God doesn't exist".

But it doesn't matter anyway, as the "fake religion" comment was done by a guy who was attacking Christianity, favoring Buddhism. Do you read the posts, or does your mind only process occasional buzz words? lol.

Well, the director IS a practicing Christian, and began writing this script after two close friends died "not well" is how he put it (suicide, murder??). He went to talk to his Christian leader and others about the problem of evil but did not feel satisfied. So he began a process of talking to other faiths, including traditional peoples and shamanists. He actually attended several tribal and shamanistic ceremonies.

He filmed the movie and then spend a year editing it, adding and deleting scenes. As many others have pointed out it contains references to many different faith paths, traditions, and folklore.

In the end, he left it with an open ending to let other people continue the discussion.

Be who you are. Everyone else is already taken.
