Holes in Hands

What was the significance of the holes in the Japanese guys hands in the scene near the end where is he visited by the priest? Are they suggesting he is some kind of anti-Christ? He was quoting the same Luke passage from the beginning of the movie. If I recall right, the passage is about when Jesus returned from the dead and visited his disciples. But the Japanese guy was clearly evil.

Yes. It's unclear though if the demon/Japanese guy was the actual anti-Christ, or if he was doing that to mock the Priest. I'm more inclined to believe the latter. Then again, the film has a lot of subtle Christian subtext, even though the religion is portrayed as somewhat impotent compared to the others.

At one point the sunlight breaks through the tree tops, resembling a cross. The ghost woman's attempt to keep the Father in place near the ending is reminiscent of Peter's denial of faith 'before the rooster crows twice'. So I think it's left up to you.
