The reason why most of the stories like this have a male protagonist is because most women aren't interested in monster hunting stories. Most women also are not strong as the average man.

Wow are we really going to have kids whining about female leads in tv shows now. Dude stop sooking we have plenty of male superheroes/ Supernatural hunters. I'm sure this is going for a Buffy vibe and most women aren't interested in monster hunting stories? Tell that to the majority of girls watching Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Teen Wolf and Shadowhunters dumbass.
