I don't understand .....

How can so many of you judge a show based solely on the first episode?

Think of it like making pancakes. The first one is always going to be a little bad.

We've just been introduced to this show. It's going to take some time to settle in, get to know the characters and this New World Order. We know virtually nothing yet about any of it. It always takes me a few episodes to decided if I'm gonna keep watching. Hell, it was a full season and a half before I decided I like The Walking Dead.

Instead of making snap judgments, why not give it a little more time. What could it hurt?

River: Don't worry, I'm quite the screamer. Now there's a spoiler for you!

A WOMAN on I09 seen the first three and was turned the fark off. http://io9.gizmodo.com/syfys-van-helsing-is-so-boring-its-infuriating-1786976127

I watched the first two eps and thought it sucked. Boring, unlikeable characters. I don't like the main character, Vanessa. I really see no reason to keep watching it. The story is too weak.

Most people do. The Star Trek spin-offs had high numbers for their premieres, and then large drop-offs.

If you can't hook 'em in on the first try, they'll bail.

So people should say "it sucks so far" instead of "it sucks."

Exactly. Like remembering to include 'IMHO' when stating an obnoxious fact.

IMHO, I like the show so far. The premise that have hinted at is fun. I love that her blood reverts the vampires. I am curious to see which rule set they employ for the vampires. I do hope the pick up a few more interesting characters. I don't want camp but the show feels like it is taking itself a bit too seriously. For me, definitely worth giving time to find its footing.

Edit: In rereading, I wanted to add that I wasn't passive aggressively implying you had stated an obnoxious fact.

"Are you seeing this?"
"It's just a flying saucer, Ed. We gotta go."

Sometimes, *beep* is *beep*

same here although the rick grimes (the waking dead hero who wakes up after a long coma to discover the world is taken over by walkers) made me suspicious of the show...

after watching those two episodes i think there are elements for a fun and entertaining show let's see how it goes from here
