He may have been a jerk but..

The real culprit here is jerk-omania
You probably didn't notice but..
John suffered from jerk-olar disorder
Notice I said he 'suffered from...'
Meaning that he couldn't help himself
Even if he tried..
His actions would always be jerk-nified
Poor John,
He was a prisoner within himself

When we label people jerks..
There is the underlying implication that their actions are deliberate
However, there are two realities..
The deliberate and the inflexible..
John was more the latter..
Many years spent substituting actually living
Hiding behind weaknesses, flaws, fear
Lashing out, pointing fingers, averting responsibilities
Could shape one into such a mold as John's

He realized his predicament
On his knees, both hands tied behind his back
Kneeling before a cruel, angry and judgmental crowd
who only moments ago where his companions, almost friends
His eyes shifting nervously in contemplation
I felt enormous pity for him, especially since I knew

He would do something blatantly jerk-ish

Maybe the pressure of being framed for murder was too much to handle

Longing to taste action once again..
