What's up with Vanessa and Susan
Aren't there any shows these days where a strong female character isn't automatically a lesbian? I realize there are but it seems like it is more frequent.

shareMen are evil and everything that's wrong with the world. Duh.

i'm gay and even I thought the Susan/Vanessa thing was completely jarring and unnecessary. it added nothing to the storyline and did nothing to further develop the characters. we already know how much Vanessa and Susan care about each other from every prior ep. having Susan make a pass at Vanessa was pointless.
shareNeither Susan nor Vanessa are lesbians. Susan was frightened and sad so she turned to the strongest person she knew for comfort. Since Susan is kind of trampy (at least how she's been portrayed so far), her idea of comfort is sex, so she kissed Vanessa and would have gone further just for comfort. Not at all surprising if your view of the world is so skewed that intimate contact is the only way you know how to find a safe haven with someone.
Vanessa knows this about her friend, which is why she gently shut Susan down. It's also why she stayed with her to sleep. Vanessa's message to Susan was clear - you are not required to have sex with me in order for me to provide protection and comfort.
It's a story arc to introduce the ghost lesbian vampire zombie character, just before it gets bit by a werewolf........or...it could be something else!

If vampires hate "plus signs" - imagine how they feel about the "square root" symbol.
I might be a minority here but I enjoyed the scene between Vanessa and Susan. It was a really sweet and genuine moment to watch.
The way they chose to tell the story, throwing characters in with little to no information about them, is tricky. I prefer the absence of flashbacks in apocalyptic shows but it can make things difficult to relate to the characters if you don't know their backgrounds.
I'm glad they dwelve a bit in Van and Susan relationship. Susan is important as a character since, aside from Dylan, she is the only one who knew pre-apocalypse-Vanessa. As viewers, Susan's opinions will be interesting as she witnesses the changes in her friend. For the group Vanessa is this mysterious freak woman with superpowers who can save the human race. I'm sure Susan will be more than needed in the future to prevent Vanessa from turning into a complete monster. Not to mention, Vanessa is a caring woman hopefully, but until she finds Dylan ( especially if she never does ) she needs something/someone from her past life to care for.
There're 4 episodes left, they had to shed more light on this relationship at some point.
