Like The Strain without the budget, Del Toro, and talent.
But it's really good if you imbibe enough prior to watching. :)

the writing on this show is on par with THE STRAIN's although unlike on THE STRAIN none of the character have done things that are so incredibly, mind-numbingly stupid. STRAIN has some of the worst writing ever for any tv show. both shows are enjoyable to watch but please don't act like STRAIN is a good show (writing-wise).
shareVan Helsing has some of the most awkwardly melodramatic dialogue ever heard. It's so stupidly over the top and poorly delivered and produced that every moment which is supposed to be gritty and intense (and this show wants every single moment to be gritty and intense) just comes off as laugh-out-loud absurd instead. In that sense, it's more like The 100 or Batman v Superman in writing style.
Plenty of shows and movies have terrible writing (thought not many are this terrible), but so very few manage to combine it with terrible acting, terrible direction, terrible art direction, and terrible cinematography to create a product so thoroughly abysmal as Van Helsing. I suppose that is a notable achievement, in a way.
natstuff123, have you watched THE STRAIN? if you did you'd know that that show's writing is even worse than VAN HELSING's (especially since Del Toro's name is attached to it!).
shareThey could easily both be up for WORST writing of ALL time.
It really is that dire. I guess a lot of it comes from having a different person write each episode. It's usually better in season 2, but even still, you need a serious showrunner to make this kind of thing work.
district, i agree 100% that having different writers for every/most eps (for any show) is oftentimes a really bad thing. the quality of eps can vary immensely which ruins (again, oftentimes) a show.
