I believe it helps a show when they no how long it will last. The writers can develop a story and work their way to a natural conclusion.

I remember being shocked when I first learned years ago that a TV show's story is not fully worked out from the start. It just seemed obvious that it needs to be.

Some shows work like that. For example with Crazy Ex Girlfriend, they knew the conclusion and the final sentence the main character will say even before they were greenlit for season 1. Avatar the last airbender was like that too.
