That was one of the most silly galactic plot premise that was ever imagined for Star Trek. They did something that belongs in a Twilight Zone episode and not Trek.

It makes absolutely no sense, who ever pitched & signed off on this idea for a hole season of an already struggling show need to be fired.
They could of had the federation destroyed by the Borg or another Dominion war or those parasites from season 1 tng . But no they went with someone gets upset and all the dilithium blows up.... because feelings are the only thing that matters. Oh and if that being is so magic & powerful it can wipe out civilizations, I'd knock it out and keep it sedated just in case it sneezes and kills everyone it didn't get first time.
