I'm really excited to see this, but I wish someone would fix the grammar of the plot description. It's horribly written.

A middle aged carpenter, who requires state welfare after injuring himself, is joined by a single mother in a similar situation.

Would that do?

The commas are unnecessary.

Except that he didn't require it after injuring himself, he had a major heart attack.
