weak acting? (spoilers)

The part near the end, where poor Daniel has a heart attack,

There was a bloke kneeling down next to him saying 'call an ambulance'.

Horrendous acting.

There where other parts in the film too I thought the acting was good enough.

I couldn't tell you the breakdown from scene to scene, but most of the cast were non-actors: it was all part of Loach's push for authenticity.
For example; the foodbank scene was shot in a real distribution centre in Newcastle (the Church of the Venerable Bede), and most of the people in that scene were real-life volunteers and "customers".

ah okay, thats fair enough i suppose, I bet it saves a lot of money!

That part just stood out to me in such a dramatic scene.

They should just have had Hayley Squires there and not had another character there

I think literally only the two leads are professional actors which explains why some of the acting is a bit rubbish.

God it was so bad, took me right out of the scene.

Worst part was he didn't even need to be there. The woman giving him CPR was enough.

Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

the shoddy acting ruined most of the film, it wouldn't have been too bad a watch otherwise

Ken Loach likes to cast comedians and musicians as well as relatively unknown actors. Dave Johns was a brickie who became a stand up and acted in a few plays so he was perfect for the role.

The other trick Loach does is to get local non-actors who work in those roles or similar roles and have them 'behave' rather than act. That can be hit and miss and there were a lot of misses.
