It was Ok

Not as good as I thought it would be, I don’t like how short the emotional scene with his parents were,I wish we had more scenes with his mom because his dad we ended up liking cus he was silly and always needed help from Simon but the mom was mysterious.

I wanted to like this film as well but I absolutely hated it. It was overly dramatic, obvious, self important...it just tried too hard to be...well, it just tried to hard, It didn't feel natural. That one character, the one who was blackmailing Simon was sooo unlikable and not just because of the blackmail. He was an idiot!

Major disappointment.

Simon should have punched him when they was in the parking lot and he was apologizing for outing him

Your name is "movielover", well me too. I enter every screening rooting for an absorbing tale. This debacle was hamfisted. It's as simple as that. I guess I could see Simon holding back on that kid who was blackmailing him. However once he outed Simon all bets are off! I would have made a beeline to that kid's home for some revenge.

It seems you people lack empathy. You think that this was "overly dramatic" because you can't put yourselves in the shoes of these characters. That's really too bad. I can only imagine you people eye-rolling through the whole thing like "you're gay! get over it!" Sad.

The movie was excellent and it was all very natural. It was also naturally funny.

I don’t think the people on this thread are eye-rolling. I think, like me, they went to the movie expecting a film like Moonlight or Call Me By My Name. But this was a light-weight teen movie. And that is great! When I was in high school, I would’ve been delighted by this movie. Back then, we had depressing, gay movies like The Children’s Hour or Cruising. We’ve come a long way to have a positive, mainstream movie about a teenager coming out.

Love Simon, was phenomenal compared to the disgusting Moonlight and Call Me By Your Name.

but compared to movies in general, solidly above average but far from great.

It was a good film, but nothing special. I guess it's major achievement was in making a typical teen movie about a gay character. I agree that the blackmail angle (and the character of the blackmailer) just didn't ring true. The ending struck me as just too forced and contrived, something like a gay fairy tale (no pun intended there) - after much travail, worthy boy gets prince charming in the end.
