When I first saw the trailer for Fantastic Mr. Fox I was hesitant to see it, but gave it a chance based on my love of Anderson's prior films. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I've watched it a second time in the intervening years, and enjoyed it every bit as much. Isle of Dogs will hopefully be similar. The trailer looks fun, and based on the Fox movie, I'm pretty excited to see this.

shareI agree that Fantastic Mr. Fox was better, though not because it was any less preposterous. It was more of a traditional film, while Isle of Dogs seemed artier. Maybe I'm a rube, but I usually like the straight-forward, "regular people" films better than the overly-obtuse ones, which Isle of Dogs by no means was, but in comparison to the Fox, the Dogs were artier.

The art was more attractive in the Fox as well.
Just saw it and loved it. I was willing to suspend disbelief and not worry about why the leader hated dogs so bad. It was a fun ride. Loved the animation, the characters, the voices, and a jokes sprinkled throughout.
Haven't seen Mr Fox. Come to think of it I don't think I've seen any of Wes Anderson's movies until this.

I saw The Royal Tannenbaums. Hated it.
Tried to watch The Darjeeling Limited, couldn't make it through because it didn't maintain my interest.
The Grand Budapest Hotel sounded promising, but I hated it. Disliked the characters, couldn't invest. Bailed about 45 minutes in, much like The Darjeeling Limited.

It's not that. I like quirky, just not usually his flavour of quirky. Plus he tends to cast a lot of the same people, and several of them I don't like.
I might like Mr Fox, and I might like Moonrise Kingdom. I may even have the latter on my watch list. I've looked at it a lot of times but am never motivated enough to watch it. Thanks for the link :)

Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Bruce Willis. I love Ralph Fiennes, but even he and Adrien Brody couldn't save The Grand Budapest Hotel for me.
Uh, let's see. The only ones that come to mind at the moment are Safety Not Guaranteed, Her, Amelie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Life of Brian.
Those are stellar people, practically universally beloved.

No, not those things. Amelie was sweet, and actually so was Safety. That was part of the problem. I didn't like any of the characters in the ones I've seen, except Isle of Dogs.
