That certain heros and villains may not have been chosen at random unlike a average person? Look at who Thanos wiped out hero wise

Spider Man
Janet Pym
Hope Pym
Hank Pym
Star Lord
Dr. Strange?
And a couple others. Thanos maybe knows that these people have some ability to stop him or know how to with a little help. I put a question mark on Dr. Strange because some think he faked it turning to ash. How Captain Marvel comes to play I don’t know.

I'll take Thanos at his word that the "Snap-ture" was all random.

Strange is magic and the Pyms could potentially use shrinking/growing against Thanos, but I'm not sure what Spider-Man or Starlord could do to stop Thanos. Meanwhile, Tony Stark is still out there and he's one of the smarter dudes on Earth but he's still alive. I'm thinking it was just random.

Agreed. Take Star-Lord but leave the Hulk? Totally random.

If he literally had the ability to choose who goes, then maybe. But I seriously doubt it. The heroes that did survived (Stark, Thor, Hulk/Banner) were more of a threat to Thanos than those who got snapped away... not including Strange.

I say random.
