Bad ending
She didn't deserve that. I was thinking that she would be ok but he big mouth brought trouble again.
And they DID NOT deserve to get out that easy ...

Absolutely agreed. I find myself frustrated with that conclusion.
shareRuth had plenty of opportunities to leave it alone. She killed the head of a cartel’s nephew in front of witnesses. What did think was going to happen? She knew Marty and Wendy put their family above anything else. I wouldn’t have relied on them to keep their mouths shut or come to my defense when the crap hit the fan!
shareAgreed. I don't know what she was thinking sticking around like that. She was letting her obsession to "one up" the Byrds get the better of her. She had all that inheritance, had a clean record, and could have just started over. Her business partner even told her they should just split. Especially after they killed and buried Nelson under the pool. The show never revealed what they did with Nelson's SUV, and it was likely enabled with a GPS tracker as well. So, that was her final "welp, i'm out" moment.
shareI agree. She had a chance to get out and she refused to do so. But I think it matches the whole idea of the show, that your parents do trap you in a certain way of being. Right from the beginning, Ruth was a Langmore and hampered by the Langmore reputation and identity. So I think that she always felt a little bit like she would never escape that. And the difference between the way Rachel reacted when she killed someone, vs the way Ruth reacted, I think tells us that Ruth actually is probably not someone who ever would have been able to change. Ruth doesn't feel that instinctive remorse over the people she has killed, unlike Rachel, who feels horrible. I think the last scene between Ruth and Camila is basically saying that Ruth and Camila are very similar people.
I think the same idea follows through to the Byrds. Wendy was hampered by being her father's daughter. She would never escape that. And Jonah will always be hampered by being the child of Wendy and Marty.
I wanted her gone. She got too big for her britches. The ending stinks but I don't think we know if anyone really got away. The writers left this one up in the air but they may have been inspired by the mystery ending of the Sopranos.
shareIt was a great ending, until the PI showed up at the house. Let the Byrdes get away with it, but make them pay a steep price (knowing they cost Ben and Ruth their lives, the two people they each probably cared about the most besides their kids.)
But why would the PI tell a couple of psychopaths that he had evidence against them, out in the woods with no one around? What did he think would happen?
And would it even have counted as evidence? He broke in to steal it, with no warrant. And would there really be DNA to test, after cremation? And would it prove it was Ben, or just some relative?
