Just found this. Not sure if I love it or hate it! (#Spoilers#)

I have just come across this series, watched from the beginning over last couple of weeks and if honest I am really not sure if I like it or hate it haha.
Looked out this thread in interest of others views, Mostly on Wendy as if honest she really ruins the show for me. I have a feeling I will be in the minority on this. She Annoyed me a little at the start but for the majority of season 3 I have absolutely hated her with a passion!! Marty's rant at her in the therapist house nailed it for me haha.
I wasn't sure if it's the character and you meant to hate her as she becomes more power hungry and greedy but loads people seem to love her. She always seems to have this condescending, smug arrogant face! I am dying for someone to shut her up!
I can't decide if Marty and Wendy still love each other or hate each other.
I don't understand why the massively powerful drug cartel put up with Jacob and Darlene!
I really liked Ruth's arc but she was a little more one dimensional this season. Although chucking frank Jr off the boat was great!
Ben was a good character who I liked and I thought although brief his character demonstrated his illness really well but was still the most sane person in it! Haha
Didn't see the end with Helen coming though!

Ahh ok thank you. Should have read all the threads properly! Appreciated.

so , the genius of the writing is that Marty is fallible and his wife is sometimes right?

Bits of writing I didnt like:
Darlene poisoning the herion just cos she felt like it , not to mention shooting Del early on - too crazy!
Ben constantly refusing to accept he was in mortal danger and to hide! I guess his multiple attempts to sabotage his own survival were written in to make it easier for Wendy to give up on him.

Well, I didn't open that topic, just thought that this OP might be interested in the discussion on Wendy since he specifically expressed his dislike for her character.

I do think the writing on this show is strong overall, though.

Darlene is supposed to be completely unhinged - that's the whole point. Jacob was enamored of her, but it doesn't mean that everyone else would be. And Ben was ultimately not competent, why is that hard to believe?

The piece of writing I did question is how the Snells always speak of generations of their family on their land, how the power company flooded them out, etc., etc. - but it's not like they are brother and sister. I suppose Darlene entirely took on the Snell identity or something?.. Because her pride and her extreme emotional investment in all that don't make any sense.

I cant remember if the land was sold by Jacob or his father , but I guess Darlenes dislike of outsiders coming in and doing stuff and/or business is just general "community spirit" as well as family loyalty.

The Snells didn't sell, they were displaced by the power company when the area was flooded to create the Lake of the Ozarks, and they still carry that century-old grudge.

If you want you can rewatch that whole bit about riparian rights and eminent domain in s02e09, it was very interesting.

That was the reason the Snells had to be pressed, cajoled and ultimately tricked into the whole deal with the casino and the hotel.

I too have just watched 3 seasons while in lockdown.
I am really not sure if I like it or hate it either.
You cant really root for Marty or Wendy as they are criminals who have got a lot of people killed and wrought havoc on that little community since they appeared there.

The whole Darlene story is a tad annoying you don’t get any real sense of their “power” and so I don’t see how she gets away with what she does at all, cartel could deal with her in a heartbeat if wanted!
I can sympathise somewhat with Marty I think he has a moral compass somewhere and just got too deep and trying to limit what he can.
I liked Ben, and while yes his refusal to listen to these around him lead to Wendy leaving him I think she is ultimately reasonable, the second he turned up she should not have allowed him in! Or at very least when got to point where he had to go she could have made him disappear she had the money to do it! But I maybe blame her cause don’t like her haha! I think she liked having him about was cause despite his issues he was the only one who encouraged her and told he she was smarter and better than everyone else

In season one Del even questioned if the Snells had any money, because he had "no way to tell". 😄

I don't know, the Snells seem to have these extraordinarily dedicated employees - although beats me why, especially after Jacob killed Ash.

Jacob mentioned in season 1 that Darlene extends many kindnesses to their employees and fetes them, but it's just something we were told, not shown.

Yep don’t get it! Mob went mental when Jr went off the roof of the boat but seemed to take him getting hit bits blown off pretty well when chucked a bit of money! I get that there was some acceptance that he had done wrong in beating Ruth which prob was taken into account but they took that far too easy I would say! I wonder what they have on the police Sheriff dude? Can’t just be fear?
