Can't wait for the third movie!
I know I am in the minority here but I think this was a decent movie, could have been better with some small changes in the script but overall I enjoyed the movie. I haven't seen the first Sicario movie but now I really want to!
I really liked both lead actors in the film, I just wish they would have given Benicio's character a little more depth in terms of his desire to keep Isabel alive instead of killing her.
I think after the ambush occurs south of the border and Isabel flea's the humv, Benicio tells Brolin that he will go after her, and I think that would have been the perfect time for Benicio's character to make a statement to the audience of his intentions but also keep us in suspense with something along the line of "He took my daughter, now I will take his" while he is perhaps loading up his gear for his journey. This might make some viewers think that Benicio is going to murder her because the mission was scrubbed and thus will build even more suspense as he chases after her. Or the other option is that the audience will think he wants to save her for his own.
Later while they are in the deaf man's home they can have this conversation occur between Benicio and the deaf man where he can convey his intentions of her being HIS daughter now and how he has to keep her safe. We as the audience will then get a better view of Benicio's true intentions and why he accepted the mission in the first place: To abduct the daughter of the man he hates most in this world, and turn that mans daughter into his own replacing the one he lost.
I really liked the pacing of this film as all the points where the action and suspenseful moments occurred at the perfect time for me. The menacing/dreadful overtrack they continually played throughout the movie really helped ratchet up the suspense in the film as well which I thought was a good touch. Solid flick 7/10 just has characters that need more depth is all.
