The "twist"...
Is just a rip-off of Being John Malkovich. This was still an ok movie, but hardly deserving of the praise it got.

shareI enjoyed this one way better than John M. One of the I've seen in a long while

shareI think that might have a lot to do with it. Some movies are very generational. BJM was hugely praised at the time, but it is a bizarre film, and I'm not sure a younger audience would appreciate it the same.
shareBJM is one of my favorite movies. The third time I saw it, I was surprised at how much funnier it was than the first two times.

I respectfully disagree. This was WAY better than Malkovich, and certainly scarier. I think it's an excellent horror movie with social commentary included: 8.2/10. That is a breath of fresh air. I can see why it was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
😎
Sorry, this isn't on the same level as BJM. That wasn't trying to be a horror movie, but aside from that,it is better on every level. As for an academy award nomination, they have been stacking the deck towards African Americans for several years, due to the backlash they received a few years ago. I've always considered award shows a joke anyway,so that hold little weight with me either way.

Actually comparing this to BJM is comparing apples to oranges. They're both good. I liked this movie, but I also agree with your other points.
😎
Agreed they are extremely different, I was really just comparing the "twist" ending to the concept in BJM, which are VERY similar, right down to the way being stuck in someone was portrayed in the movies.

Yes, the twists were very similar.

“Um, wow. I love this theory, I have heard this theory. It was definitely not lost on me that I was able to get Catherine Keener in her second like weird perspective, living in someone else's brain movie. We joked about that and I'm a huge fan of the movie Being John Malkovich. I also sat down with [Being John Malkovich director] Spike Jonze a couple months ago, told him this theory myself and he chuckled. So as far as I'm concerned, it's true.”
