He deserved an A+

Despite the difference in opinion/interpretation...I dont feel it was right to grade a perfectly put together paper with anything less than an A. He offered his own argument to support his point of view. When confronted about the grade the first time, the teacher should have changed the grade.

I felt high school was a joke. Well, not at the time. Not until I was able to reflect after college. So yeah, in reality, someone like Lucas would easily be a 4.0 student, and would get A's in every assignment. This teacher was expecting way too much.

Lol, I agree. If someone gave me a B+ after I wrote an entire book I'd be throwing hands too.

I homeschooled my kids for 18yrs. I think his unique take on what he read definitely deserved an A. Any student can easily copy Cliff Notes. What I always hated in school about analyzing and interpreting literature was that teachers often stuck with one view point. I’m a freelance write so far from an expert but I’m also avid reader. I think readers often interpret what they read in their own personal way and apply it to themselves. An example is how one song can touch someone’s heart yet annoy another. When my kids would write about what they read and felt I let them express their own feelings not what some teachers manual said. Just in case someone puts me down for this I can assure you doing this actually helped my kids in college classes.
