Review Written After Originally Viewing
Of Mary Poppins Returns, I will say that the sequel was not nearly so bad as many people expected when plans for it were announced. It was generally well cast and the animated sequences were beautiful. The pacing was overall faster than the original. I could tolerate their Mary Poppins and even Lamplighter Jack but it was the lack of great or even good music which was a dealbreaker. I don't believe Julie Andrews bailed because the movie was a loser although maybe but probably due to her own concerns about how she might appear onscreen. She was very gracious in the way in which she declined to appear.
