Isaa = the black female Larry David

It's everyday things that occur in life that are most hilarious. That's what Larry David created with Seinfeld and his show Curb your Enthusiasm. Isaa paints a very similar picture. Although some things go over my head and I have go to urban.com (I know I'm so white) lol but that's the beauty of this show. Isaa created the show "her way" the realness of the show makes it almost feel like a reality show. Thank you HBO for renewing my Sunday night laugh and my
crashcourse on black women! Lol

This show is okay and there are some moments that are funny. Issa Rae is very good a portraying the awkwardness and realness of certain situations. However, just like not all white men act like Jerry Seinfeld or his sidekicks this is not even close to a representation of ALL black women. If anything, these characters are more closely representative of millennial black girls on the West Coast. I hate when people can't resist putting all black people into a box or category. We're very diverse. In fact, that's why Issa pitched this show. It's just the everyday life of one particular black girl living in Los Angeles. Nothing deeper than that and that's the intention.

I like Issa, and I can't stand Larry David. It's a totally different type of comedy. Larry David whines and complains about everyday trivialities (i.e., which bathroom he's allowed to use at a friend's house) that I could care less about. Insecure is far different than that, which I mean as a compliment.

I think you guys are missing my point. When I say "curb like" meaning she created a show that's not forced comedy. Such as general everyday things that occur in life that are funny. The name of the place of where she works is freaking hilarious but so true. Totally different shows indeed. But similar far as dry humor. It's not a diss.

No, Issa Rae is Issa Rae. She doesn't need to be defined through the lens of a septuagenerian white man. If you have to use an online dictionary to understand what's going on, the show's foundation isn't derivative of something mainstream.

Wow.. comparing her to Larry David was a compliment. I believe he had 9 seasons on HBO and do for a 10th? Relax stop making imaginary racial probing. Nobody is putting her in a box. I simply made the comparison because LD was the last person to create write and star in his own sitcom. And that's a great company to be in. Is it not?

I agree with that assessment. And it is a total compliment.
